Leverage Artificial Intelligence to drive insurance efficiency – GIA President urges industry players

The President of the Ghana Insurers Association (GIA), Mr. Seth Kobla Aklasi, has urged stakeholders to adopt Artificial Intelligence (AI). He believes AI can drive innovation and improve efficiency in the insurance industry.

Mr. Aklasi spoke at GIA’s 3rd Annual International Educational Seminar in Accra. He highlighted AI's potential to transform insurance operations significantly.

“AI-enabled tools can process claims in real time,” he said. “They can assess accidents instantly and credit accounts immediately.”

He emphasized the need for Ghana's insurance sector to align with global trends. Innovation is essential for resilience and competitiveness, he noted.

The seminar runs from May 14 to 16, 2025. Its theme is “Innovating Together – Building a Resilient Insurance Future.” The event aims to provide local practitioners with global insights and support Ghana’s economic development.

Leading insurers, reinsurers, and experts from various fields are attending the seminar. This includes professionals in marketing, IT, corporate communications, economics, and management.

Mr. Bernard Ohemeng-Baah, Acting Deputy Commissioner of Insurance, also spoke at the event. He reaffirmed the National Insurance Commission’s (NIC) commitment to supporting the sector.

“The NIC will create an enabling environment through collaboration,” he said. This partnership is vital for driving innovation within the insurance ecosystem.

Sponsored by WAICA Re, the seminar will focus on capacity building and networking opportunities. Five expert discussants will lead key sessions during this event.
