Linda Akweley Ocloo, the Greater Accra Regional Minister, announced good news.
She reported the restoration of 126 streetlights in various areas. This includes Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the region.
On March 25, she spoke to journalists about her progress. She highlighted this achievement during her first 50 days in office.
“Today marks exactly my 50 days in office,” she said. “I am pleased to report significant progress.”
Ocloo mentioned that streetlights were restored on highways, town roads, and community roads across 29 MMDAs.
This effort follows her promise to have at least 70 percent of streetlights operational within her first 50 days.
The initiative aims to improve visibility and enhance security in the capital.
However, she noted some key routes still lack lighting. The Tema Motorway and Accra-Tema Beach Road are affected by ongoing construction works.
“I must mention that these routes could not be lightened due to construction,” she explained.
The restoration of streetlights is expected to boost road safety. It will also help reduce crime and improve night-time navigation in affected areas.
