Linda Ocloo orders demolitions at Tema and Sakumono Ramsar sites

The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Ocloo, has announced plans to demolish unauthorized structures. This includes buildings on the Sakumono Ramsar site and waterways in Tema. The demolition will begin soon.

This action follows a directive from President John Dramani Mahama last Thursday. It aims to address ongoing flooding issues in the capital. Ocloo stated that the demolition will start after confirming Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executive (MMDCE) nominees.

She emphasized that there will be no exceptions this time. "If a building is on a waterway, it has to go," she said. She received instructions from the Presidency to remove illegal structures in Sakumono and Tema.

Dr. Zanetor Agyemang Rawlings, MP for Klottey Korley constituency, also addressed land encroachments. She urged assembly members to help tackle encroachment at Osu landing beach. Community members have complained about individuals occupying this area.

During a tour with the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Rawlings highlighted the need for support against encroachment. She noted that assembly members should consider community challenges when planning resources.

Rawlings stressed that empowering the assembly is crucial for protecting land rights. "We must deal with this issue before demolishing homes becomes necessary," she warned.
