Local Gov't Minister cautions public against Bawku conflict commentaries

The Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim, has issued a warning. He advised the public, especially politicians, to be careful with comments about the Bawku conflict.

He stated that irresponsible remarks could stir emotions. This could disrupt the ongoing peace process led by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene.

Mr. Ibrahim spoke during a visit from the Parliamentary Select Committee on Chieftaincy, Culture and Religious Affairs. They wanted to check on the ministry's progress in various areas.

He emphasized the sensitivity of the Bawku conflict. This conflict has lasted for several years between the Kusasi and Mamprusi communities. It has caused loss of life, property destruction, and displacement of people.

He urged Ghanaians to be cautious with their words. Support for government efforts is crucial in resolving this long-standing issue.

Regarding peace efforts, he praised the Asantehene's role in promoting dialogue. His involvement has helped bring stakeholders together for peace.

“The Asantehene's contributions have been widely recognized,” Mr. Ibrahim said. “His efforts have significantly advanced progress so far.”

As the peace process continues, he stressed that stakeholders and the public must remain guided for a lasting resolution to the conflict.
