Local Government Minister praises Asiedu-Nketia for shaping his political journey

Minister Ahmed Ibrahim praised NDC Chairman Johnson Asiedu-Nketia. He called him his “political godfather.”

Ibrahim said Asiedu-Nketia guided him for nearly two decades. This mentorship helped him rise as a Member of Parliament and now, a Minister of State.

He spoke during a thanksgiving service at the Church of Pentecost in Sakumono. The event celebrated his re-election to Parliament and his ministerial appointment.

Ibrahim, the Banda MP since 2009, is serving his fifth term. He recalled how Asiedu-Nketia encouraged him to run for office as a novice.

“He taught me to be truthful,” he stated. This principle has guided him throughout his career.

Asiedu-Nketia avoids lies, believing they harm one's spirit. He also urged Ibrahim to be hardworking, compassionate, and respectful while living by Christian values.

The Minister acknowledged Asiedu-Nketia’s selfless mentorship. He appreciated how the chairman shared his experience as a former minister and three-term MP.

Ibrahim noted that younger politicians should avoid chasing short-term glory in public life.

He remembered struggles as an opposition MP, including attempts to unseat him during elections.

“In all those battles, General Mosquito stood firmly behind me,” he said. He described Asiedu-Nketia as a leader worthy of emulation.

“I am eternally grateful to General and ask for God’s blessings upon him,” he added.

Ahmed Ibrahim was sworn in as Minister on January 24, 2025. He confirmed the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving Service on July 1, 2025.

This event will be decentralized across all districts in Ghana.

He believes the service will uplift Ghana spiritually and economically under President John Dramani Mahama's leadership.

“The Thanksgiving will help stabilize the cedi and support other aspects of President Mahama's reset agenda,” he declared.

In his sermon, Apostle Wilberforce Nkrumah Agyemang urged Christians to pray for national leaders.

He emphasized the need for transformational leadership that achieves extraordinary results.

“Ghana needs leaders who achieve outstanding successes with overwhelming impacts,” he said.

Agyemang also encouraged public officials to make “godly adjustments” in their lives. Such changes attract divine blessings that benefit the people they serve.

The Thanksgiving service was attended by top NDC leaders and supporters. Notable attendees included Chairman Johnson Asiedu-Nketia and Bono Regional Chairman Kwadwo Nyamekye Marfo.
