Looters have approached us to return stolen ‘loots’, others prepared to ‘snitch’ – Deputy AG

Justice Srem Sai, the Deputy Attorney General and Minister of Justice, has made an important announcement. Some looters involved in corruption investigations want to return stolen items.

He stated that these individuals are also willing to testify in court against others. Justice Srem Sai spoke to the media at the Supreme Court on May 13, 2025. He said, “Several people have approached us with offers to return loot. We have agreed with some of them.”

The Deputy Attorney General mentioned that the Office of the Attorney General is focused on recovering all looted assets through Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL). He encouraged anyone who wants to return stolen assets voluntarily to come forward.

Justice Srem Sai expressed confidence in their recovery efforts. He said, “There’s no better way of recovering money than voluntary recovery.” He reassured Ghanaians that the government is committed to reclaiming public resources and holding wrongdoers accountable.

The Office of the Attorney General has filed 11 charges against Kwabena Adu Boahene, former National Signals Bureau boss. His wife Angela Adjei-Boateng and two others are also charged with stealing and money laundering.

According to the charge sheet, they stole state funds totaling GHc 49 million. The Attorney General, Dr. Dominic Ayine, filed these charges at the High Court in Accra.

Additionally, charges have been filed related to a $2 million Sky Train scandal. This includes former Board Chair of Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF), Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, and Solomon Asamoah.

Reports indicate that these charges stem from a payment made in 2019 for an urban Sky Train system project in Accra that was never completed.
