Dr. Razak Kojo Opoku is the Founder and President of UP Tradition Institute (UPTI). He recently spoke about loyalty in leadership, especially in politics. He believes loyalty should be earned, not demanded or manipulated.
In a statement on April 10, Dr. Opoku highlighted the importance of mutual respect. He stated that leaders and followers must trust each other. No one owes allegiance without earning it.
“Loyalty and commitment are earned,” he said. “They are also reciprocal.” Understanding this principle is vital for politicians.
He advised political leaders to choose their associates wisely. Leaders should allow supporters to align with trustworthy figures. “Let’s allow people to choose leaders they can follow,” he urged.
Dr. Opoku warned against using loyalty as a weapon in politics. He called such tactics counter-productive and manipulative. “No more loyalty and disloyalty manipulations,” he declared. “Loyalty must be serviced,” he concluded.
