MCE confirmation in Bole postponed to May 12 amid youth protests

The confirmation of the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) nominee for Bole District has been postponed. The new date is Monday, May 12. This decision follows protests by local youth.

On Friday, May 9, tensions rose in Bole. Angry youth took to the streets to express their disapproval. They waved placards and burned tires, raising security concerns.

In an interview with Citi Eyewitness News, Savannah Regional Minister Salisu Be-Awuribi clarified the situation. He stated that the original confirmation date was never May 9.

“We first proposed May 7 for the confirmation,” he explained. “We needed more dialogue, so we postponed it to Monday.”

The Minister emphasized that no Assembly Member meeting occurred on May 9. He said assumptions about a scheduled confirmation were incorrect.

“No Assembly Member gathered for the MCE confirmation today,” he noted. “The actual date was Wednesday, which was postponed to Monday.”

He also mentioned that youth had informed the Ghana Police Service about their planned demonstration. They intended to protest on Tuesday and Wednesday of that week.

“This was an attempt to disrupt the confirmation process,” he said. “We advised rescheduling, leading to Monday’s new date.”

Savannah Region has seven districts; all but Bole have confirmed nominees. The Minister expressed hope for a successful meeting on Monday when Assembly Members will speak.
