Mobile Money Limited plans to work with law enforcement agencies. They aim to provide safety education for mobile money agents. This decision follows a rise in violent attacks against vendors nationwide.
Godwin Tamakloe, the Chief Risk and Compliance Officer, spoke on Channel One TV. He announced that training is underway for agents on handling robbery attempts. The training will also cover other security threats.
Tamakloe emphasized the need for educating agents in vulnerable locations. These agents face increasing risks while performing their duties. He assured that the company is committed to this initiative urgently.
Agents play a crucial role in the success of mobile money services. They bring services closer to customers, which is vital for satisfaction. It is concerning to see them attacked, Tamakloe added.
This initiative comes after several high-profile attacks on vendors. In particular, incidents have increased in the Ashanti Region. Notably, 33-year-old Augustine Mensah was shot and killed on February 27, 2025.
He was attacked after serving a customer late at night. Earlier that month, Patricia Nimako was shot at her shop in Krofrom. On March 10, Gideon Owusu Sarpong was murdered during a robbery at home.
These events have raised fears among mobile money operators. There are renewed calls for better protection measures as well. Tamakloe stated they are looking at industry-wide solutions with police support.
He stressed that protecting these individuals is a collective effort beyond Mobile Money or MTN alone.
