MP Jerry Ahmed Shaib sounds alarm over prolonged ‘dumsor’ in Weija‑Gbawe, demands urgent action

Jerry Ahmed Shaib, the MP for Weija-Gbawe, is raising concerns about power cuts. These unannounced outages are lasting several days. They are affecting homes, clinics, and small businesses.

On April 17, 2025, Mr. Shaib issued a statement about the crisis. He called on Ghana’s power sector to take immediate action.

He highlighted the persistent power outages (dumsor) in his constituency. The situation has worsened over the past few months.

Mr. Shaib criticized the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and GRIDCo for their lack of communication. He noted that these outages disrupt daily life and essential services.

The MP stated that households, healthcare facilities, schools, and businesses are all impacted. The consequences include hampered economic activity and endangerment of lives.

He pointed out that Weija-Gbawe is suffering more than other areas. Some communities have faced outages lasting over four days.

Despite meetings with ECG officials, no progress has been made. Mr. Shaib acknowledged GRIDCo's assurances but said residents still face unreliable electricity.

He concluded with an appeal to the Ministry of Energy, GRIDCo, and ECG. He urged them to act quickly to resolve this issue.

“The people of Weija-Gbawe deserve better,” he emphasized in his statement.
