MTN Ghana’s CEO, Stephen Blewett, recently shared his experience with mobile money fraud. He highlighted the growing threat of scams in the country.
Reflecting on his first year at MTN, Blewett recalled a specific incident. A fraudster called him, claiming he had made an unauthorized transfer. The scammer tried to manipulate him into believing it was true.
Blewett decided to keep the caller on the line for about 15 minutes. He wanted to avoid being scammed and protect others from the fraudster. Eventually, he revealed that he was the CEO of MTN. The caller didn’t believe him and hung up angrily.
This encounter underscores the rising challenge of fraud in mobile money services in Ghana. Blewett's story reminds customers to be cautious with financial transactions. Scams are becoming more sophisticated every day.
During his anniversary speech, Blewett stressed MTN Ghana’s commitment to fighting fraud. He said they are always looking for ways to improve customer service. “We apply a customer-first mentality to tackle these issues,” he noted. They are also exploring better solutions for users.
