The Member of Parliament for Madina, Francis Xavier-Sosu, has proposed that the site designated for the National Cathedral be repurposed for a more beneficial national project, such as a children's hospital.

Speaking during a media interaction at an NDC meeting in Madina, Mr. Xavier-Sosu, a Christian and legal practitioner, emphasized that the funds already spent on the project—GH¢339 million as of July 2024—could have been better utilized.

He referenced an earlier parliamentary session where Abena Osei Asare, then Minister of State at the Finance Ministry, confirmed the spending in response to questions raised by Patricia Appiagyei, the former Deputy Majority Leader.

Xavier-Sosu argued that building the cathedral is not a national priority.

The MP assured Ghanaians that the NDC government is focused on addressing challenges and implementing initiatives for the country's development.
