President John Dramani Mahama has introduced a new Code of Conduct. This Code aims to promote integrity, accountability, and discipline among political appointees.
The Code was unveiled on Monday. It sets clear ethical standards for ministers and public officials. This reinforces President Mahama’s commitment to restoring public trust and fighting corruption.
The Code outlines strict rules on various issues. These include gift-taking, asset acquisition, conflict of interest, and official travel.
Importantly, it prohibits appointees from accepting gifts from those with vested interests in government decisions. Any gift valued over GH¢20,000 must be declared. Upon leaving office, such gifts must be surrendered unless authorized by the President.
To prevent abuse of power, the Code bars political appointees from purchasing state assets directly or indirectly. Violations will lead to immediate dismissal.
