Agricultural Research Scientist, Prof. Roger Kanton, praised President John Dramani Mahama. He commended Mahama for allowing public scrutiny through a 120-day social contract.
President Mahama took office in January 2025. He promised to fulfill 26 key pledges from the NDC’s 2024 manifesto within four months. Government data shows that 19 of these promises have been met so far. Two are in progress, while five remain unfulfilled.
The outstanding commitments include reviewing vehicle taxes and starting a 24-hour economy policy. Other pending items are banning illegal mining and reviewing the Customs Amendment Act of 2020. There is also a plan to introduce a bill for government scholarship awards.
Additionally, the government aims to reopen investigations into by-election-related killings. They also want to remove vigilante elements from state security agencies.
During an analysis on Channel One TV on May 7, 2025, Prof. Kanton called the initiative groundbreaking for Ghana's governance. He said, “The president did a noble thing, and I salute him.” He described the social contract as bold and novel.
Prof. Kanton noted that such practices are common in Western democracies but rare in Africa. He emphasized that this opportunity shows Mahama is willing to listen to the people.
