The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) branch of UTAG has praised President John Dramani Mahama. They commend his performance during the first 120 days in office. However, they are concerned about illegal mining, known as galamsey.
Residents of Kumasi share similar concerns. They acknowledge the president’s efforts but want stronger action against illegal mining.
UTAG-KNUST President, Prof. Eric Abavare, spoke to Citi News about the government's progress. He expressed satisfaction with early achievements that offer hope for better living conditions.
However, he criticized the lack of progress in fighting illegal mining. He rated the administration's performance on this issue at less than 10%. He mentioned Prof. Frimpong Boateng's report as a valuable resource for action.
Some residents echoed these sentiments. They praised the president’s initial performance but called for more efforts against illegal mining. Gabriel Owusu noted that Mahama is being careful and trying to meet Ghanaians' needs.
