Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga praised the NDC government. He said it has achieved "one of the fastest economic recoveries in Ghana’s recent history."
In his opening statement to Parliament, Ayariga noted a “national awakening” under President Mahama. This is marked by a stronger cedi and lower inflation.
He commended Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson. He introduced the term “Forsonomics” for the country’s new economic direction.
“Our cedi has appreciated 24.1% against the US dollar since January 2025,” Ayariga stated. “This isn’t just statistics—it’s real relief for Ghanaian families.”
He shared figures showing significant drops in fuel prices and transport fares. Imported food prices have also decreased across the country.
The economic turnaround resulted from quick legislative action during Parliament's first session. Key reforms included removing the e-levy, carbon tax, and VAT on insurance.
They also restructured gold mining levies and fully allocated funds to education and health.
Ayariga emphasized that “Ghana is being reset again” due to strong governance from the Majority.
As Parliament begins its second meeting, he urged MPs to focus on fiscal prudence. He highlighted the importance of revitalizing the private sector and consolidating the economy.
“The numbers speak for themselves,” he said. “But it is the people’s renewed confidence that truly tells our recovery story.”
