President John Dramani Mahama announced that Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang will donate four months of her salary. This donation supports the newly launched Ghana Medical Trust Fund under the Mahama Cares health initiative.
On May 7, President Mahama updated the public on his 120-day social contract with Ghanaians. He emphasized his commitment to helping citizens with chronic diseases not fully covered by the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
“The Ghana Medical Trust Fund is a bold national policy,” he said. It provides financial support for those suffering from chronic diseases. The fund serves as a lifeline for chronic disease care.
The President officially launched the fund on April 29. He pledged six months of his salary as an initial contribution. Vice President Naana Jane also promised four months of her salary.
Mahama encouraged all citizens to contribute to the fund. “I encourage every Ghanaian to contribute as you are willing and able,” he stated. Contributions can be made using shortcode 225# across all mobile networks.
He assured that funds will be disbursed once the governing board is formed. The Mahama Cares program aims to strengthen social protection and healthcare in Ghana. No Ghanaian battling a chronic condition should lack financial support, he added.
