President John Dramani Mahama announced a new initiative for students. The Ghanaian government will offer 1,000 scholarships to tertiary students. This program is open to students from the ECOWAS sub-region. They can study at universities in Ghana.
President Mahama spoke at the ECOWAS 50th Anniversary launch in Accra. He highlighted the importance of regional integration and dialogue. He also emphasized peaceful co-existence among nations.
The scholarship aims to bridge socio-cultural gaps among West African youth. It promotes a sense of unity across the region. "Let us position our sub-region as a diplomatic anchor," he said.
He added that this initiative strengthens regional bonds. "This is not just a gesture; it is an act of solidarity," he stated. It serves as a bridge for young people to see each other as partners, not foreigners.
