President John Dramani Mahama launched a new program in Techiman on Saturday. He stated that Ghana is preparing to meet the rising demand for palm oil. Currently, the country produces 300,000 metric tons of palm oil. However, national demand is about 450,000 metric tons.
This creates a shortfall of around 150,000 metric tons. To address this gap, strategic planning and increased productivity are necessary. The global palm oil market is expected to grow to $65 billion by 2027.
During the launch of the Feed Ghana Programme, President Mahama outlined its goals. This initiative aims to enhance food production and promote modern farming techniques. It will also improve infrastructure and establish agro-industrial zones across Ghana.
The President announced a new policy for the palm oil industry. This policy will provide incentives throughout the palm oil value chain, from cultivation to export. Additionally, the Tree Crop Development Authority will focus on six key economic trees: oil palm, cashew, mango, coconut, shea, and rubber.
President Mahama emphasized his vision to modernize agriculture in Ghana. His government aims to create jobs and reduce food inflation while enhancing food security. The Feed Ghana Programme will serve as a comprehensive framework for all agricultural initiatives and projects in the country.
