Mahama administration trying to set new tone – Osae-Kwapong

Dr. John Osae-Kwapong is a research fellow at CDD-Ghana. He is also a political analyst. He recently assessed President John Mahama's administration after 102 days in office.

Osae-Kwapong believes this government is setting a different tone. This contrasts with Mahama's previous administration, which ended in a 2016 defeat. He spoke on Channel One TV's The Big Issue on April 19.

He highlighted key actions taken by the new government. These include limiting the number of ministers to no more than 60, as promised during the campaign. They are also addressing immediate concerns, like the unpopular E-levy.

"I believe the John Mahama administration is trying to set a different tone," he said. "They are sticking with their promise of no more than 60 ministers." He noted these are important steps that can be tackled quickly.

Despite these efforts, Osae-Kwapong pointed out unresolved issues remain. "You still have a number of things outstanding," he stated. Overall, he feels they have signaled their priorities through the budget.

"They are putting in place a good framework for governance," he added. However, he cautioned that it’s too early to judge the administration fully. "It will take more than 120 days to see how it all plays out."
