Mahama announces launch of ‘Green Agenda’ programme for Bono Region

President John Mahama has announced a new environmental program for the Bono Region.

The program is called the “Green Bono Agenda.” It will focus on afforestation, protecting water resources, and climate-resilient agriculture.

This initiative aims to combat deforestation, water scarcity, and land degradation in the region.

President Mahama spoke at a durbar of chiefs and residents in Sunyani Jubilee Park. This event was part of his ‘Thank You Tour’ in the region.

He emphasized his government's commitment to restoring degraded forests and polluted water bodies. The government also plans to invest in small-town water systems for safe drinking water.

The program will prioritize sustainable environmental practices. The Bono Regional Coordinating Council will engage local communities as key stakeholders.

President Mahama highlighted the important role of traditional authorities in development and environmental protection. He pledged to strengthen the House of Chiefs and empower councils for better local governance.

“Chiefs are vital partners in progressive development,” he stated. He mentioned plans for constitutional review to enhance their roles in environmental oversight.

Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Dr Agyemang Badu II praised the President's inclusive governance approach. He commended Mahama for appointing more youth to key positions.

The Paramount Chief urged appointees to work hard towards achieving national goals. He also applauded efforts to stabilize the cedi and called for continued economic support policies.

Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Badu II expressed optimism about further strengthening the cedi. He projected an exchange rate of GH₵5 to $1 by year-end.

He urged the government to ensure accountability in the National Cathedral project and recover misused funds.
