Mahama applauds GPRTU for reducing fares as economy stabilises

President John Dramani Mahama has praised the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU). He welcomed their decision to reduce transport fares. This move provides relief for Ghanaians as the economy improves.

The fare reduction took effect on Saturday, May 24. It coincides with the stabilisation of the cedi and declining inflation.

During his Thank You Tour at the College of Health in Kintampo, he expressed gratitude to transport operators. He noted that they responded positively to the improving economic situation.

“Our currency is stabilising, and inflation is gradually declining,” he said. “Investors’ confidence in our economy is returning.”

He added, “Ghanaians are feeling a slow but steady relief when shopping.” He thanked GPRTU and drivers' unions for reducing fares amid hardships.

However, not all drivers have complied with the fare reduction. This has caused confusion among passengers on some routes. The GPRTU has urged all members to follow the new fare structure for consistency.

This will help ease tensions among commuters and ensure fairness in pricing.
