President John Dramani Mahama has officially signed bills into law, scrapping the betting tax, e-Levy, and emissions tax. The move fulfills a major NDC manifesto pledge aimed at easing financial burdens on Ghanaians and promoting economic growth.
Parliament passed the repeal of the Electronic Transfer Levy (E-Levy) on March 26, marking a significant policy shift. Introduced in 2022 under the previous NPP government, the e-Levy imposed a 1.5% charge on electronic transactions.
The tax faced strong opposition, with critics arguing it disproportionately affected low-income earners.
The decision has been widely welcomed, with many seeing it as a step towards economic relief and business expansion in Ghana.
