Mahama calls on Czech private sector to explore cooperation with Ghana's economy

President John Dramani Mahama has urged the private sectors of Ghana and the Czech Republic to work together. He wants them to explore cooperation in various sectors of Ghana's economy.

He emphasized Ghana’s strategic position within the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). This area provides access to a market of over 1.3 billion people.

The President made this appeal on Tuesday, April 8, 2025. He spoke at a joint conference at Jubilee House in Accra. This event was part of a three-day state visit by Czech President Petr Pavel.

“I urge the private sectors of both countries to collaborate,” he said. “I am pleased that there will be a business roundtable tomorrow between Ghanaian and Czech businessmen.”

President Mahama also highlighted the importance of trade and investment. He noted these are key for economic relations between Ghana and the Czech Republic. He encouraged efforts to boost their currently low levels of trade.

At the multilateral level, he appreciated the long-standing cooperation between both nations. They have worked together on international platforms like the United Nations. He called for continued support for each other's candidates in international positions.

He specifically requested support from the Czech Republic for Ambassador Mohammed Adam. Adam is vying for Secretary-General of the United Nations World Tourism Organization. In return, he assured support for the Czech Republic’s bid for UN Security Council membership.
