Mahama can ensure all galamsey operators leave forest reserves in two weeks if he wants to – Manasseh Azure

Investigative journalist Manasseh Azure believes President John Dramani Mahama can remove all galamsey operators from forests in two weeks.

Since the NDC took power, reports have emerged about some members taking over protected forest reserves.

Erastus Asare Donkor has been a strong advocate against illegal mining. He has provided evidence showing that galamsey remains widespread despite ongoing efforts to stop it.

In a social media post, Manasseh Azure stated that the president has the power to end the invasion of forest reserves. His post read, “If President Mahama wants all galamsey operators to leave the forests in two weeks, he CAN do it.”

The fight against illegal mining became a major topic during the 2024 campaign. The then-opposition party, NDC, blamed the New Patriotic Party for engaging in illegal mining activities.

The opposition promised Ghanaians they would combat illegal mining and take action across the country.
