President John Dramani Mahama has announced key promotions in the Ghana Armed Forces.
These changes include a new Chief of Defence Staff and Service Chiefs. The appointments will take effect on 24th March 2025.
The Armed Forces Council recommended these promotions. They represent a significant shift in military leadership.
Major General William Agyapong is now the Chief of Defence Staff. Major General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu becomes Chief of Army Staff. Rear Admiral Godwin Livinus Bessing is the new Chief of Naval Staff. Air Vice Marshal Eric Agyen-Frempong takes over as Chief of Air Staff. Air Vice Marshal Joshua Lartei Mensah-Larkai is appointed as Chief of Staff.
Felix Kwakye Ofosu, a Member of Parliament, signed the statement about these changes. The President expressed full confidence in the new military leaders.
He stressed their importance in safeguarding national security and operational efficiency. President Mahama urged them to serve with patriotism and dedication.
He emphasized unity and cooperation within the military to tackle security challenges effectively. The President highlighted the Ghana Armed Forces' role in maintaining stability and defending sovereignty.
He also called for integrity and professionalism from the newly appointed officers.
