Mahama endorses Alban Bagbin as Speaker of the 9th Parliament

President-elect John Dramani Mahama has instructed the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Leadership to nominate The Right Honourable Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin as Speaker of the 9th Parliament of the Fourth Republic.

The decision follows consultations within the NDC and recognizes Bagbin’s exceptional parliamentary career.

As a long-serving MP for Nadwoli, he has held key roles, including Minority Leader, Majority Leader, and Speaker of the 8th Parliament.

President-elect Mahama expressed confidence in Bagbin’s leadership, emphasizing his ability to enhance Parliament’s oversight and promote Ghana’s democratic progress.

The nomination demonstrates the NDC’s commitment to strengthening parliamentary governance and fostering legislative effectiveness during this pivotal period.

This was announced in a statement signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Special Aide to the President-elect, on January 5, 2025.
