The Ministry of the Interior has declared Monday, March 31, and Tuesday, April 1, 2025, as public holidays in observance of Eid-ul-Fitr, fulfilling a campaign promise by President John Dramani Mahama.

This decision follows his earlier announcement of an additional holiday to honor the Muslim festival.

In a statement issued on Saturday, March 22, Interior Minister Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak explained that Eid-ul-Fitr, which falls on Sunday, March 30, is a statutory public holiday.

However, to ensure proper national observance, the government has designated the following Monday and Tuesday as public holidays.

President Mahama signed an Executive Instrument (E.I.) under Section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act (Act 601) to formalize the decision.

This move aligns with existing protocols that permit the declaration of additional holidays when significant celebrations fall on weekends.

By honoring this commitment, the government acknowledges the vital contributions of the Muslim community to Ghana’s development.

The extended holidays allow for broader participation in Eid-ul-Fitr festivities while reinforcing national unity and inclusivity.
