Richard Ahiagbah, the Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), criticized the John Mahama-led government. He claimed that in five months, they have done nothing but talk.
Ahiagbah stated that the recent appreciation of the cedi is not a reason to celebrate. He emphasized that it should lead to job creation and better living standards.
He called for policies that promote real economic growth and create jobs for Ghanaians. Speaking on Good Morning Ghana, he said, “Mahama’s government has not done anything yet.”
He added, “If the cedi appreciates but there are no jobs, then it’s nothing.” Ahiagbah wants to see growth-led policies that yield results.
He argued that Ghana needs sustainable employment rather than just a stronger cedi. He believes a weak cedi could benefit Mahama's 24-hour economy program.
Ahiagbah explained that celebrating a strong cedi only supports an import-dependent economy. He compared this situation to issues between the US and China regarding currency manipulation.
He questioned what strategy the government has if their goal is a 24-hour economy. A strong cedi makes imports expensive and hinders exports.
The NPP Director claimed Mahama's government is shifting focus from production-led plans to minor operations like passport offices working multiple shifts.
He expressed confusion over this shift, stating it does not align with Mahama's promises. Ahiagbah concluded by reiterating that Ghana needs sustainable employment for its people, not just a stronger cedi.
