Mahama gov’t to construct 3.6km bridge over River Afram – Road Minister announce

The Minister of Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has announced plans for a new bridge. The government will construct a 3.6-kilometer bridge over the Afram River.

President Mahama has instructed Agbodza to design and build this bridge. It will connect Ekye Amanfrom to Adowso as part of the big push agenda.

Previous attempts to build this bridge have failed twice. The last government could not complete it, which hindered access to the Afram Plains. This area links three regions: Eastern, Ashanti, and Oti.

Agbodza stated that two previous efforts were made to finish the bridge. He emphasized its importance for connecting the South and North regions. The bridge will support agriculture and investment in agro-processing.

He mentioned that Ghana is currently facing challenges. Therefore, they aim to create a cost-effective yet high-quality design for the bridge. A consultant will ensure that the work lasts long-term.

Agbodza believes they can start construction soon, even without full funding. He estimates it will take two to three years to complete once started.

Some Ghanaians have shared their thoughts on this project. One person questioned why there is no focus on the Oti River bridge funded by South Korea. Another commented that if NDC builds this bridge, it could impact NPP's future.

One user expressed frustration with waiting for slow transport at Adeiso. Another eagerly anticipates seeing progress in the Afram Plains during their lifetime.

In summary, plans are underway for a significant infrastructure project aimed at improving connectivity and boosting local economies in Ghana’s Afram Plains region.
