Mahama govt appears clueless in galamsey fight – A Rocha Ghana

Daryl Bosu, Deputy Director of A Rocha Ghana, criticized the Mahama administration. He believes it failed to address illegal mining, known as galamsey.

On April 10, he spoke on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News. He highlighted a critical period after Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia conceded defeat to John Mahama. During this time, illegal miners took advantage of weak leadership.

Bosu noted that political elites and law enforcement seemed disengaged. This allowed illegal miners to exploit vulnerable areas. He stated that the situation has worsened with no real progress made.

He also expressed disappointment in the current government. Bosu accused them of not following through on their past advocacy for forest protection. He questioned if they had a clear plan before taking office.

Bosu suggested their strategies lack clarity and effectiveness. "Everyone criticized the previous administration for not doing enough," he said. "Now it seems they are clueless about what to do."

He added that reports from the ground indicate worsening conditions without relief in sight.
