Dr. Tiah Abdul-Kabiru Mohammed, the MP for Walewale, criticized President John Dramani Mahama. He accused the president of ignoring his own code of conduct for public appointees. This criticism came after the president pardoned Sammy Gyamfi, acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board.
A video showed Gyamfi giving an undisclosed amount of U.S. dollars to evangelist Nana Agradaa. The footage caused public outrage and raised concerns about possible violations of Ghana’s Foreign Exchange Act. It also questioned adherence to the code governing public officers.
On Citi Eyewitness News, Kabiru expressed disappointment in the government's selective enforcement of rules. He stated that the president treats the code as "a mere piece of paper." Kabiru claimed that Mahama chooses who to punish and how.
He accused the president of protecting powerful allies while targeting less influential individuals. “The president only bites the vulnerable,” he said. Kabiru expressed frustration that Mahama does not enforce his own code of conduct.
In response, government spokesperson Felix Ofosu Kwakye denied any breach by Gyamfi. He argued that no actions in the code justify claims against him. According to Kwakye, Gyamfi's actions do not violate President Mahama's guidelines for appointees in government.
