Mahama issues stern ultimatum to appointees over asset declaration

President John Dramani Mahama has issued a clear directive. All government appointees must declare their assets by May 7, 2025. Those who missed the March 31 deadline will face automatic dismissal.

The President announced this during the launch of the Code of Conduct for Public Officials on May 5. He emphasized that all appointees in office before the deadline must comply. Asset declaration is vital for transparency and accountability in public service.

Mahama also stated that any salaries lost due to non-compliance will go to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (Mahama Cares). This fund will help treat Ghanaians with chronic health issues like kidney failure, cancer, and heart disease.

“The days of impunity are over,” he declared. “Public service must be built on integrity.” He stressed that officials who ignore legal requirements cannot remain in office.

He urged public officials to protect their reputations and act in the public interest. They should avoid accepting gifts or favoring family and friends over citizens' welfare. “The people of Ghana expect a government that serves them,” he said.
