Mahama lauds outgoing CDS, Service Chiefs

President John Mahama praised General Thomas Oppong-Peprah. He is the outgoing Chief of Defence Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces. The President recognized his dedicated service to the nation.

Mahama also commended other outgoing leaders. These include Lieutenant General Bismarck Kwasi Onwona, Vice Admiral Issah Adam Yakubu, and Air Marshal Frederick Asare Bekoe. They all served diligently for the country.

The President spoke during the inauguration of the Armed Forces Council. This event took place at the Ministry of Defence in Accra. The council is chaired by Vice President Prof Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang.

The council advises the President on defence policies and strategies. This includes military budgeting, finance, administration, and officer promotions above Lieutenant-Colonel rank.

Other members of the council are Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Mr Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and Alhaji Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka. Additional members include Mr Daniel Addo, Mr Fuseini Iddrisu, and Madam Nancy Dankwa Ampofo.

President Mahama expressed gratitude to outgoing council members and service commanders. He acknowledged their dedication to strengthening the military's professional standards and discipline.

“Your service has been invaluable,” he said. “Ghana is deeply grateful for your efforts.”

He congratulated newly sworn-in members of the Armed Forces Council as well. “I trust you will serve with honour and commitment to Ghana,” he added.

The President emphasized that the military should symbolize national unity and progress. “Together, we can shape our Armed Forces' future,” he stated.

He promised to advocate for better conditions within the military. This includes access to quality healthcare and career advancement opportunities.

As they move forward, Mahama urged everyone to work together for a stronger military. He encouraged newly sworn-in council members to embrace their responsibilities with dedication.

Vice President Opoku-Agyemang spoke on behalf of the Council in her acceptance speech. She thanked President Mahama for this honour bestowed upon them.

She assured him that they would rise to their responsibilities diligently and loyally. “We aim to ensure peace and stability for our beloved nation,” she said.

Opoku-Agyemang reiterated their commitment to maintaining Ghana Armed Forces' global reputation.
