President John Mahama has launched the Feed Ghana Programme, an ambitious initiative designed to boost local food production, reduce import dependency, and generate jobs.
Speaking in Techiman, he highlighted three key components: backyard gardening, institutional farming, and poultry revitalisation.
Households will be encouraged to grow vegetables to cut food costs, while Senior High Schools and public institutions with land will receive support to cultivate crops and raise livestock.
The poultry sector will be revived through the Nkukor Kitin Kitin project, targeting over five million birds annually.
The programme also involves partnerships with the National Service Scheme, prisons, churches, and youth agencies.
Mahama revealed plans to deploy 5,000 agri-professionals and promote grain, legume, and vegetable development to drive food self-sufficiency and sustainable employment.
