Mahama nominates Paa Kwesi Badoo as CEO of KATH

President John Mahama has nominated Dr. Paa Kwesi Badoo as CEO of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi. His appointment will take effect on April 30, 2025.

The presidency announced the nomination on April 30. This announcement included Dr. Badoo’s curriculum vitae.

Authorities must begin the necessary processes to finalize his appointment. This is in line with the Ghana Health Service and Teaching Hospitals Act, 1996 (Act 525), as amended.

Dr. Badoo is an experienced medical doctor and administrator. He will bring valuable expertise to one of Ghana’s top referral hospitals.

The president wishes Dr. Badoo success in his new role.

On May 2, 2025, Prof. Otchere Addai-Mensah was relieved of his duties as KATH CEO. This decision followed a meeting with Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh.

The minister expressed gratitude for Prof. Addai-Mensah's service and dedication to the hospital.

Prof. Addai-Mensah took on the role in 2022 and led significant initiatives. One key project was the “Heal Komfo Anokye Project,” which aimed to modernize the hospital.

Under his leadership, dialysis machines increased from two to over twenty. A new pharmaceutical block was also constructed during his tenure.
