Mahama not pursuing any ‘third term agenda’ – Ayayiga

Majority Leader and MP for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga, has rejected claims by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin. Afenyo-Markin alleged that President John Dramani Mahama and the NDC are pursuing a "third term agenda."

On May 1, he claimed that Mahama's nomination of seven justices to the Supreme Court is part of this strategy. He argued that this move is an attempt to return to power beyond constitutional limits.

In response on Citi Prime News on May 2, Ayariga called the allegation baseless and politically motivated. He stated, “I think he is the one who is putting the idea in the minds of Ghanaians.”

Ayariga expressed doubt that Ghanaians or NDC strategists were discussing this issue. He noted that the idea of Mahama seeking a third term arose even before he filed to contest for NDC flagbearer in 2024.

He added, “The conversation about him running for a third term came up before he filed.” Some people even threatened legal action to stop him from contesting due to these concerns.
