Mahama orders audit of Buipe Sheanut Factory

President John Dramani Mahama has ordered an audit of the Buipe Sheanut Factory. The factory has not been operational for some time.

Mahama accused the previous administration of misusing funds. These funds were meant to keep the US$10 million agribusiness facility running.

The factory was established in 2012. It is a joint venture between the Government of Ghana and Sysgate Brazil Limited. Its goal was to add value to sheanut products and create jobs, especially for women in the Savannah Region.

Mahama stated that the Nana Addo-led administration depleted the factory’s capital. They also sold stockpiled sheanuts that could have generated revenue.

During a meeting with COCOSHE, Mahama emphasized the need for an audit. He wants to hold those responsible for mismanagement accountable.

“The factory was operating well when the government changed,” he said. “The new administration spent all the capital and sold raw materials.”

He added that after exhausting resources, the factory had to shut down and lay off workers.

Mahama insisted that financial mismanagement must be punished. Those responsible should face consequences for their actions.
