Mahama orders investigation into suspicious flights allegedly linked to illicit activities

President John Mahama has ordered a full investigation into two aircraft. These planes landed in Ghana earlier in March and left for Gran Canaria, Spain, on March 25.

The President's order comes after concerns from the Minority in Parliament. They suspect the flights—a private jet and an air ambulance—may be linked to drug trafficking or money laundering.

Mahama noted allegations made by Rev. John Ntim Fordjour at a press conference. The MP claimed the flights were suspicious and involved illegal activities.

“This matter requires urgent clarification,” Mahama tweeted. He instructed relevant agencies to investigate and report on these flights.

Fordjour stated that one aircraft, Air MED flight L823 AM, arrived on March 20. It stayed for five days without transporting any patients.

A private jet, Antonov 12B, also arrived on March 12. It left the same day as the air ambulance, raising further suspicions.

The President urged security agencies to collaborate with Fordjour. He emphasized the need for all necessary information to investigate these allegations thoroughly.

Mahama highlighted that transparency is vital for national security. “We must not allow Ghana’s airspace to be exploited for illicit activities,” he said.

He added that this investigation will help maintain the integrity of Ghana's aviation sector.
