President John Dramani Mahama has taken action to improve security in the Bono East Region. He directed the Minister for the Interior and the Inspector General of Police to send more security personnel to areas facing rising crime.
During his thank-you tour on May 29, he noted increasing insecurity in the eastern corridor. He specifically mentioned hotspots like Atebubu-Amantin, Sene East and West, and the Pru districts. “Development cannot thrive without security,” he emphasized.
Mahama acknowledged that highway robbery and armed robbery have become common in these areas. In response, he announced a multi-faceted security plan to restore calm and protect residents.
He stated, “I have directed additional security personnel to those areas where robbery is rampant.” The government will also provide patrol vehicles and communication equipment for police use.
Additionally, Mahama plans to enhance community policing and improve intelligence gathering. This aims to reduce armed robbery incidents sustainably. “We are going to strengthen community policing and intelligence gathering,” he added.
