Mahama orders speedy desilting of Odaw drain to prevent flooding

President John Mahama has directed contractors to speed up work on the Odaw drain. This is crucial before the rainy season to reduce flooding in Accra.

During his tour of flood-prone areas in Greater Accra, he took action against illegal encroachments. He ordered Caitec Motors to restore a Ramsar site and a water retention basin at Mallam Junction. The company had illegally filled these areas with silt.

President Mahama also instructed the Greater Accra Regional Security Council (REGSEC) to enforce his directives. They must ensure Caitec Motors desilts and clears the affected area. Additionally, they need to remove structures built in waterways.
