Mahama pens opinion piece slamming Trump after ambush of South Africa President

Mahama Criticizes Trump After Meeting with Ramaphosa

President John Mahama has written an article criticizing U.S. President Donald Trump. This follows Trump's recent meeting with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.

Mahama described Trump's treatment of Ramaphosa as unfounded and insulting to Africans. He specifically referred to the incident on May 21, when Trump played a misleading video. The video falsely claimed that genocide was occurring against white people in South Africa.

In his article published by The Guardian, Mahama emphasized the importance of truth. He stated that Trump's claims contradict the historical realities of racial persecution in South Africa. These include two centuries of colonization and nearly 50 years of apartheid.

Mahama recalled Ghana's solidarity with black South Africans during apartheid. He mentioned significant events like the Sharpeville massacre and the Soweto uprising. He dismissed any notion that white South Africans face persecution from the black majority.

He noted that Ramaphosa was caught off guard by Trump's accusations and misrepresented images. One image shown was actually from Congo, not South Africa. Despite Ramaphosa's insistence on no official discrimination policies, Trump refused to listen.

Mahama concluded by highlighting real humanitarian crises needing global attention. His full opinion article is available for reading online.
