President John Dramani Mahama has pledged to finish key health projects in the Ashanti Region. This includes the long-delayed maternity block at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi. He made this promise on Monday, June 2, during a visit from Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and other chiefs.
Construction of the new maternity block began in February 2021 after demolishing the old one. The five-storey facility will have modern theatres and specialized wards. These include paediatric neurology, haematology, cardiology, and respiratory care. It aims to provide comprehensive maternal, newborn, and child healthcare.
The new block will also feature a Paediatric Infectious Disease Unit and a Mother and Baby Unit. Additionally, there will be a dedicated Paediatric Renal Unit.
In his speech, President Mahama assured that work would continue on the Sewua and Afari Military Hospitals. These hospitals have faced delays in recent years. He emphasized that his administration would prioritize these health projects under the 'Big Push' Agenda for infrastructure development in the Ashanti Region.
