Richard Ahiagbah is the Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). He criticized President John Dramani Mahama for failing to deliver on his promises. Ahiagbah stated that Mahama promised a 24-hour economy but instead provides 24-hour intimidation.
He expressed this in a post on X. Ahiagbah accused Mahama and the NDC of using diversionary tactics. He said they are deflecting attention from important issues affecting Ghanaians.
Ahiagbah questioned, “Mr. President, where are the jobs?” He emphasized that holding people accountable should not cover up government inefficiency.
His comments followed the arrest of Chairman Wontumi by EOCO. Wontumi was intercepted after leaving the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters in Accra. EOCO has not yet released an official statement about his arrest.
Details of the investigation remain unclear. However, Wontumi's lawyer, Andy Appiah Kubi, reported that Wontumi fell ill during interrogation. Kubi did not disclose where Wontumi is receiving treatment.
He stated, “I know where he is but I am not going to disclose the hospital.” Kubi added that they have not finished interrogating him yet. They plan to continue once Wontumi's health improves or after he is discharged from the hospital.
