Samuel Dubik Mahama, former Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), denies allegations from a recent report. He claims he was never given a chance to respond.
“I was never called. I was never asked my opinion about this report,” Mahama said.
During an interview on the Asaase Breakfast Show, he expressed concern. His name appears in the report, but he did not get to share his side.
“As the former managing director of ECG, accusations are made against me. Yet, I was not given an opportunity to present my story.”
Mahama questioned the report's accuracy regarding the missing containers' location.
“Did the minister say the containers were with ECG? The report states they were at Tema Port.”
He argued that this means ECG did not fully control them. “If they were missing under ECG’s full custody, then you can criticize us. But they were in a security zone controlled by GPHA, marine police, national security, and customs.”
He also criticized the report for omitting important details about legal issues surrounding the containers.
“The report failed to consider several critical factors,” he noted. “Did they investigate if some containers were under litigation?”
He mentioned ongoing PDS arbitration and its pending results. Some containers came in during 2017 and had their own legal complications.
Mahama insists any review of ECG’s operations must be thorough and fair. All perspectives should be considered in such evaluations.
