Mahama responds to drug smuggling allegations from Ntim Fordjour, orders probe

**Mahama Orders Probe into Drug Smuggling Allegations**

President John Mahama has ordered an investigation into drug smuggling claims. These claims come from Assin South MP John Ntim Fordjour.

Fordjour alleged that two suspicious flights were involved in drug smuggling and money laundering at Kotoka International Airport. Mahama's government is committed to addressing these allegations urgently.

The president instructed relevant security agencies to work with Fordjour on the investigation. He emphasized that all allegations are taken seriously.

Mahama directed agencies like the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) and the Police CID to collaborate fully with Fordjour. They will gather necessary information to investigate and expose any drug dealing.

The Minority in Parliament has also called for accountability regarding recent gold and cash seizures by National Security. They noted a significant drug seizure valued at $350 million.

The Minority expressed concern over the lack of public updates on these cases. In February, National Security seized 12 containers filled with gold bars and cash.

Fordjour held a press conference demanding more transparency about the seizures. He stated, “The public has a right to know how much was seized.”

In December 2024, police intercepted a van belonging to the Precious Minerals Marketing Company at Kotoka International Airport. The van was reportedly headed for Dubai and contained 17 boxes of gold bars.

These gold bars were allegedly part of the government's Gold-for-Oil initiative, which started in December 2022. This initiative aimed to improve Ghana’s foreign currency reserves by trading gold for oil imports.

The Precious Minerals Marketing Company accused a National Democratic Congress official of leading the seizure of the gold.
