President John Mahama has disclosed that he was initially unwilling to pursue a political career due to his father’s traumatic experiences following the 1966 coup.
Speaking at Cedar Mountain Chapel International on Sunday, he shared how his father, Emmanuel Adama Mahama—who served as an MP and Northern Regional Minister under Nkrumah—was imprisoned for two years after the overthrow of the Convention People’s Party.
Mahama recounted how his father’s ordeal left him determined to avoid politics, but he ultimately accepted it as his destiny.
He noted that after serving as Communications Minister, he planned to retire until John Atta Mills selected him as running mate in 2008.
Reflecting on his journey, he emphasized the power of prayer in guiding his life and leadership.
