Dr. Tiah Abdul-Kabiru Mohammed, the MP for Walewale, criticized President John Dramani Mahama's code of conduct for public appointees. He called it a "mere piece of paper."
Kabiru made these remarks on Citi Eyewitness News. He noted that Mahama only cautioned Sammy Gyamfi, showing selectivity in punishment. “The president picks and chooses who to punish,” he stated.
He expressed disappointment in the president's failure to enforce the code consistently. Kabiru said powerful individuals in the government seem untouchable.
His comments followed a statement from Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Presidential Spokesperson. Ofosu announced that Sammy Gyamfi received a caution but no further action would be taken regarding the Agradaa dollar gift incident.
The presidency accepted Gyamfi’s public apology and considered the matter closed with a warning. During a press briefing at Jubilee House, Ofosu explained that Gyamfi had been cautioned after his interaction with Agradaa.
He added that Gyamfi was summoned by the Chief of Staff to discuss the situation. The Chief of Staff acknowledged Gyamfi’s regret and emphasized acting according to public expectations.
Ofosu reiterated that President Mahama believes a public apology suffices as punishment. He stated that they value feedback and aim to meet high standards in governance.
Mr. Sammy Gyamfi has committed to preventing similar incidents in the future, according to Ofosu.
