Franklin Cudjoe, the founder of the think tank IMANI Africa, has criticized President John Mahama's call for the removal of Inspector General of Police (IGP) George Akuffo Dampare. Cudjoe described Mahama’s approach as "cold" and lacking in appreciation for Dampare's contributions to law enforcement in Ghana. He pointed out that the IGP has been instrumental in implementing reforms aimed at enhancing police accountability and community safety.
Cudjoe emphasized that Mahama should recognize the positive strides made under Dampare’s leadership rather than advocate for his dismissal. He believes that constructive dialogue is necessary to address concerns about policing and governance, rather than resorting to calls for removal which could undermine progress. Cudjoe's comments reflect a broader sentiment regarding the importance of supporting public officials who are working towards meaningful change, even amid political disagreements. His remarks underscore the need for a collaborative approach to governance that prioritizes community welfare over partisan interests.
