Mahama’s tax reforms are purely political – Afenyo-Markin

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has criticized the tax reforms from the Mahama administration. He called them politically motivated and ineffective for Ghanaians.

On March 26, 2025, he spoke in Parliament. He argued that the reforms seem beneficial but actually burden businesses and individuals more.

“The NDC government’s tax reforms are purely political,” he said. “They give with one hand while taking even more, providing no real relief.”

In response, Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson described the 2025 budget as people-centered. He stated it aims to address pressing concerns of Ghanaians.

During discussions on the Budget Statement on March 25, Dr. Forson assured successful implementation of the budget. “This budget reflects our determination to put the people first,” he said.

He emphasized that this budget is not just about economic projections. It is a strategic response to real challenges faced by citizens.

“This budget is not just figures on paper,” he added. “It is a comprehensive plan to address Ghanaians' concerns. We have listened and are responding with practical solutions.”
